The Dalton School

The Dalton Chorale was founded in New York City in 1991 and provides its members the opportunity to sing beautiful sacred and secular works dating from the 17th to the 20th centuries.   Originally drawn from alumni of the Dalton School, its members are now a richly-diverse ensemble of serious amateurs - including alumni, parents, faculty and staff from Dalton, as well as friends and colleagues from the wider musical community - from all walks of life who thoroughly enjoy the commitment and communal effort required to perform great music for chorus and orchestra.   The Chorale's performances draw on the strengths of exceptional soloists and an ensemble of some of New York's most talented young professional musicians.

Under the direction of David Shuler, the Chorale presents two concerts each year, one in May and one in December. The Spring 2007 Concert featured Maurice Duruflés Requiem, and Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna.  In December 2007, the Chorale performed Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata and John Rutter's Gloria, with Motets of Anton Bruckner and Morten Lauridsen and Randall Thomsen's Alleluia.

The Chorale welcomes new members and opens its first few rehearsals each September and January to individuals interested in joining.   After several visits, candidates who wish to become members of the Chorale are asked to audition privately with the Director.
